Meet the team: Head of Asset Acquisition Gary Mullaney
We’re back with another edition of our ‘Meet the team’ series and this time, we’re shining a light on our Head of Asset Acquisition Gary Mullaney.
As Head of Asset Acquisition, Gary is responsible for ensuring our clients receive asset values for their electricity, gas and water projects. Along with our Business Development team, Gary manages relationships with our existing clients and secures opportunities with new clients who want an established and trusted independent network operator to adopt and own the utility infrastructure on their new developments.
Can you tell us a bit more about your role, Gary?
I head up the business development function at mua, which is about looking after our clients and driving business growth.
We make sure that when our ICP, developer and housebuilder clients request asset values from us, they get their quotes back in a timely manner. As well as supporting clients with asset values, my team and I make sure all their other needs are met so their sites are energised as quickly and efficiently as possible.
It’s our vision to become the first-choice multi-utility network operator, so I want to make sure our clients have a smooth and seamless journey from asset value quote acceptance all the way through to payment.
What do you like most about your role?
Dealing with clients and securing deals is the best part of my role. It feels great to secure a significant site with a client when you’ve put a lot of time and effort into it.
I spend most of my time talking to our clients, whether that’s on the phone, in Teams meeting or in person. My job is to ensure the client is happy, so responding to queries swiftly is important.
Another major positive of my role is that I mainly work from home, so I can take my girls to school each day and walk my dog George at lunchtime. I feel fortunate that I’m able to balance a fulfilling job with family life so easily.
When did you join mua?
I joined mua in January this year. Previously, I worked for our stakeholder Murphy for 21 years and wanted a new challenge.
We’ve got a great team here at mua. I was only in the role for a few weeks before they felt like friends rather than just work colleagues.
What’s your proudest personal achievement?
I walked 100km in 24 hours along the Thames Pathway from Putney to Henley-on-Thames back in 2014. We were raising funds following the devastating earthquake in Nepal and we raised £8,700.
Aside from incredible charity treks, how do you like to spend your time outside of work?
My wife and I love to travel, and we were determined not to stop doing that once we had children. At Easter this year, we took the girls to Thailand and introduced them to the amazing food and scenery that we enjoyed on our own travels years before. It’s definitely sparked some wanderlust in them too!
Next on our list, we’ll be heading to the South of France for our first big trip in our new campervan.
